2 x 1 Offer

Here we can see a Marketing campaign, which encourages consumerism, because you can by more than one product at the same price.

We are first going to talk about the organization. In the superior and central part we can see different geometric forms that attract the attention of the consumers. This part is the more attractive because it is in the central and uses bright colours, red and white, that it makes it more interesting. The words are very big and highlight because with a simple view you can read them and know what are they talking about.

In the other hand in the inferior part of the announcement we can see a black phrase, the type of font used it’s smaller than the words from the central part, but although it’s smaller we can still read it. While, under this black phrase we see three columns where the type of font used is smaller than the phrase before it and that make’s it very difficult to understand what they are talking about.

The message is very clear; they reduce the prizes and propose offers of 2x1 in different products. They highlight it because they want that everyone knows what the announcement is about and not have any doubt about it, but they miss the brand. We nearly can’t read the brand because it is located in the right inferior corner and is the last part that the consumer sees if they follow the reading order from left to right and from top to bottom.

We have chosen Donkey Kong. Donkey Kong is a fictional character; Shigeru Miyamoto created it for the Nintendo Company. Donkey Kong is a gorilla that appears in different videogames, such as Mario or Donkey Kong Country. When it first started to be commercialize, in 1981, was in the Super Mario Games, there he was Mario’s enemy, after his own games had started to be created the first one called Donkey Kong Country in 1994, but although having his own game it stills appears in some Mario games where he still acts as his enemy like in Mario Kart.

Donkey Kong is a big, corpulent and smart gorilla. He represents de strength because is what he most uses in every videogame, the strength used in a good way but also in a bad way, he also represents goodness because although he usually is the bad character he also is very loved by everyone. His big body, the hair over all his body and his nice and funny face makes people fell confortable with him and want to play with him.

In some videogames he acts as the villain, for example in the Super Mario games he tries to stop Mario from rescuing his lover Pauline. Donkey Kong has Pauline kidnapped and he wants her for him. Mario is always the one that has to pass through different episodes to win Donkey Kong, while he is always save waiting for Mario to come. In the other hand in his own videogames is Donkey Kong who is in danger and is his son who has to rescue him. Nowadays Donkey Kong has become a ancient gorilla now known as Cranky Kong and is his son who has new videogames with the same strength his father used.

He is so popular because when he was commercialized he broke with all the rules. With his creation the jump-and-run platform was born. Nowadays, thirty years after his birth, he still is one of the most recognized and loved fictional characters. His strength, his roll of villain and his desire to annoy and win Mario are the characteristics that make this character enjoyable.

Editing picture

We have edited Picture number 1 with the Photoshop programme, because is the one we know about and we have learn how to use it in the past two years here in University.

We have decided to blur some parts of the face that appears in the picture, doing this we’ve eliminated the wrinkles and the face will seems softer. The photo is pixelated so it was more difficult, because if we unfocused one part the pixel next to it was affected, but with the enlargement of the image and the graduation of the brush we have solved the problem. We can see this changes in picture number 2.

In the third picture we can see how we’ve changed de colour of her lips, so that way we give the picture more brightness. We have chosen a light colour because other colours, like red, would be too hard for the picture and they would be confused with other colours of the clothes and the background. In this case we have coloured first the top part of the lips because we had to trace the interior part of the mouth and be careful with the teeth’s to avoid that they got coloured. We have spent some time doing this because of its complexity; also we have illuminated the image so it wasn’t so dark.

Finally we have added a soft pink colour to the cheeks so that they stand out. It’s been hard to find the colours that fit into the image, because the pixels didn’t let us select a particular area, if we tried to fixed the right part of the face there was a pixel that had a part of face and of hair so if you changed it the hair changed also and with the right part we had the same problem with the eye. We have decided to reduce the colour of the cheeks, so that way we could stand out the lips and the eyes and leave in a second place the cheeks. We can se how the final photo is like (4) and compare it to the original (1).

The curious incident of the dog in the night-time is a Mark Haddon novel. He is an English writer. The author is recognised for writing novels for children, but this book is for all publics. The story is about a 15-year-old boy, Christopher John Francis Boone. The teenager talks in first person and tells us his day a day, how he lives, his emotions and feelings of someone who suffers from Asperger syndrome. Christopher is very energetic and he likes to investigate and learn more about the world around him. He is a big fan of the Sherlock Holmes novels. The author refers to him on the title because the title is a comment that the Sherlock Holmes said in the novel of Silver Blaze.

The life of Christopher changes because her neighbour’s dog was murdered. The story is entertaining and interesting, and also it has some funny parts. Once you start reading it you can’t stop following the adventures of Christopher John Francis Boone.

I’ll never become a publicist. It’s morally incorrect.

Sheila – The Desigual (Día de la madre) ad is very sexist so I’ll never want to become a publicist.

Marta – But that is not the publicist's fault, the brand also decides, what type of advert they want to do. Publicists normally gets, the brands ideas and then they create the advertisements.

Sheila – The publicist shouldn’t create a type of ad that they don’t believe in. They should think first in their values and think about if what they are creating follows their ethical values.

Marta – Publicist have to do what they are asked for, they cannot say, ah no I don’t want to create or write this ad because I’m against killing animals. They work for a company and that company works for some brands if the publicist doesn’t like those brands he will have to shut up and leave their values aside and work.

Sheila – I think that a publicist, as I said before, should place their values before of work and if the company they work for does not follow his/her values; he could always change of work and look for another one that he feels confortable with.

Marta – Nowadays we can’t go leaving jobs because we don’t like the values that the company works with. It’s not time to lose a job without having another one for sure. We must leave our feelings to one side and do what we must do and when we leave work is when we have to keep defending our way of life.

Sheila – You may be right because we all have families and people we care about and having a job nowadays is very important, but although I will never become a publicist because I would not feel happy with myself if I left behind what I have always defend.
